The two public lectures will approach the relationship between poetical and political themes from different historical perspectives, and with regard to different media (from the 19th-century realistic novel to contemporary film).
Jacques Rancière (born Algiers, 1940) is a French philosopher and Professor of Philosophy and Aesthetics at the University of Paris VIII (St. Denis). He taught Philosophy from 1969 to 2000 and was editor of the famous journal »Les révoltes logiques«. Rancière is best known for his work on aesthetic philosophy and democracy and also writes extensively on cinema. He is this year’s research fellow at the Collaborative Research Centre “Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits” (SFB 626) at the Freie Universität Berlin.
